| Today I learned that everything I do in lab is company property. Meaning my lab notebooks and all protocols given to me by others must remain on the premises for all eternity. BUT if I rewrite protocols and make them my own, I can take them with me when I leave.
So this is what they meant by 'inventions.'
I am creating my own protocol binder.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I must be insane.

| oh saturdays, how i love thee. especially the mornings, filled with such potential and sweet sweet freedom.
i can't wait to try this shortbread recipe! hopefully they will be as melt-in-your-mouth as the name claims...perhaps even a contender for the ghiradelli milk chocolate ones that target ran out of. grrr those aggressive holiday shoppers. speaking of which, i need to raid their sale aisles for some belated stocking stuffers heh, heh.
of the new upstarts that have sprung up unfailingly every time i come back, my favorite one by far has got to be trader joe's. five years of seeing the skeleton of bonsai nursery was well worth this wait. oh, the convenience! a mere two minute trek to the inviting interiors of shelves stocked with goodies galore! and the evil starbucks (five cent red campaign? less than 2% of a drink...c'mon) instantly rises in status by virtue of association, accessibility, and well, their caramel macchiatos.
apparently that merlon (yeah, that weird mermaid-meets-lion bizzarrity) in front of the restaurant on stevens creek is the national mascot of singapore. so says my well-traveled friend who spent a semester there. exact replica, maybe? lion because the first discoverers claimed to see one when they landed (even though only tigers reside there) and mermaid to pay tribute to their fishing roots. or something like that. wonder what our national mascot would have been if all were chosen in this fashion. quick, history majors, go!
playing apples to apples with young'uns two nights in a row has made me acutely aware of my age. and these repeated instances of alliteration are not intentional, i assure you. i've realized my sense of humor errs heavily on the sarcastic. not drippingly, i hope. but what is it they say about sarcasm? it's a coverup for insecurities? hmm...something to ponder. it may be too late to change my funny bone. what tickles it is what tickles it! i'd like to think that i have a good breadth of appreciation. irony, slapstick, cheese, corn, awkward, borderline racy, ridiiiiiculous, silly, clean, etc. i don't like charlie the unicorn though. everyone should play pick-up lines. it's just like apples to apples but with...pick-up line prompts.
sometimes i like to make lists of all the things that make me happy. it's been awhile since i've done this, but it never gets old. here goes.
morning runs when the air is crisp and brisk. the lines on calves indicating 'tonage.' snail mail. enthusiastic informative fun emails (email me!). painless scheduling. bedtime reading and comfy linens. overlarge hoodies during cold weather. this. laughing. funny tv shows with cute boys or jerks (aka psych, house). cold showers. roasted peanuts. camaraderie that never changes. friendly strangers on the street. unexpected phone calls.
